Mastering the Road: Advanced Racing Certification

Over the past 39 years, Skip Barber Racing School has trained one of every three professional race car drivers in motorsports. Nationwide company connections make it possible to customize multiple racing, driving, and corporate programs.

The school is based at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca; however, custom racing events are possible at almost any track, parking lot, or stadium in California. But it’s worth the three-hour drive to Laguna Seca to experience the track. The 11-turn, 2.2-mile Mazda Raceway course is known for a unique corkscrew section with hard left and right steering combinations and exhilarating 59-foot drop.

A three-day racing school and advanced program qualify graduates to compete in the Skip Barber Winter or Summer Series or apply for the IndyCar Academy Scholarship Shootout to win scholarship awards for advancing racing careers. Graduates become eligible to apply for a Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) regional competiton license, and Skip Barber will even issue letters of recommendation based on a driver’s on-site performance.

Laps of Luxury

Drive business creativity, impress clients, or just take it to the limit with your own exotic auto racing experience

Surreal, heart racing turns around the track become reality with Exotics Racing at the prestigious Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Plan an exhilarating drive at this professional locale where newfound speeds of up to 130 miles per hour reawaken the senses.

Exotics Racing first offered luxury auto experiences in Las Vegas in 2009. The company’s new, separate, 1.2-mile course opened at the speedway this year to offer eight exciting turns and a 1,600-foot (about the length of five plus football fields) straightaway.  The track is located just 45 minutes east of downtown Los Angeles.

Both novice and seasoned drivers find safety and comfort reaching top speeds in this no “rules of the road” setting. Professional instructors sit as passengers with an extra brake in every car, guiding drivers toward top speeds and maximum car performance. Exotics Racing tracks are specifically designed for supercars and feature the latest TecPro track safety barriers.

Drivers can choose from 8 to 10 different autos during a visit including the Ferrari F430 F1, Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2, Lamborghini Superleggera LP570-4, Porsche Cayman R, Porsche 997 Turbo S, Audi R8 V10, and Nissan GT-R.

Also available is a two-lap passenger experience in a Corvette Z06 driven by Evens Stievenart, a professional auto and ice racer who founded the Stadium Automobile racing school in Abbeville, France. Ride-along experiences can be added to any racing package, making it possible for children and international business clients without a valid driver’s license to experience exotic racing.

The company’s fleet is regularly updated with new models to offer customers the best experience possible. New vehicles on order this year include a Porsche 991 GT3 and Lamborghini Huracán. Exotics Racing’s vehicles are intricately maintained with tires replaced most often on the Corvette Z06, used for rougher ride-along experiences.

One-day racing experiences are offered on weekends and include brief, 20-minute classroom instruction, familiarization laps, and real-time one-on-one instruction. Drivers must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license, and reservations are suggested at least two weeks in advance.

Dubbed California’s largest racing destination, Auto Club Speedway’s 568-acre venue is known for its exclusive corporate hospitality entertainment programs. Client expectations are surpassed with climate-controlled luxury suites, panoramic track views, and private pit and paddock access. Even Hollywood filmmakers have embraced the venue’s two-mile, 75-foot-wide, D-shaped oval track, home to various local group activities and professional NASCAR and IndyCar events.

Professional drivers might rule the racetracks, but Exotics Racing steers newcomers toward its mantra, “stop dreaming and start driving.
